Modern Forest Home
Gaithersburg, Maryland
Gaithersburg, Maryland
The owners of this 1970s rambler in Gaithersburg purchased the home for its remarkable wooded setting and long-term potential. After waiting years to make the quality of improvements their forever home deserved, they turned the house into a deeply personal sanctuary rooted in nature.
Savvy Design Studio reconfigured the main living areas, repaired structural issues, enlarged window openings, and incorporated significant energy upgrades. The new design creates a more open flow for family life and entertaining, while preserving places of retreat - including a sage green library with double pocket doors for privacy.
A two-island kitchen now allows the whole family to cook and gather together, while expanded views and biophilic design bring the surrounding forest into daily life. The result is not simply an updated rambler, but a legacy home: One shaped by its setting, its owners, and the life they plan to continue building there.
Construction completed January 2025.
