Middleburg Hobby Barn
Rooted in Land, Craft, and Legacy
Rooted in Land, Craft, and Legacy
The owner of this agricultural property in Middleburg engaged Savvy Design Studio to design a flexible, free-standing structure that would support a hobby workshop, entertaining space, and an accessory dwelling unit.
Rather than approaching the project as a simple outbuilding, the design process focused on creating a personal retreat that felt connected to the land and appropriate to its Virginia setting. The barn’s traditional styling, generous porch, and vineyard views help the structure feel as though it belongs naturally on the property.
The long porch overlooks the future vineyard with the sunset beyond, creating a quiet gathering place and a meaningful connection between the building, the landscape, and the owner’s vision.
Each of the three concept options explored during schematic design drew inspiration from the local culture and agricultural character of Middleburg, interpreted through the owner’s dream of a wine-making refuge.
The result is a highly personal accessory structure designed for craft, hospitality, and long-term enjoyment - a lasting addition to the property that supports the way the owner wants to live now and into the future.
